The Shore Of Enlightenment
Charles Darwin, founder of the modern evolutionary theory, became a nature scientist on a journey around the world.
How the places in South America, that fascinated the young Darwin so much, look like today, I covered for the magazine ‘Mare’. My photographs in mare are compared to Darwin’s travel notes. Highlight of the journey are the Galapagos Islands, the paradise for dinosaurs and turtles and an El Dorado for evolutionary scientists up to this day. On the Galapagos Islands Darwin came closer to ‘the secret of all secrets, the first appearance of new life on earth’.
Charles Darwin’s travel reports ‘Journey around the world, 1831 – 1836’ are published at Thiedemann’s Publishing House, Stuttgart.
